Five hundred dollars would be a big advance for a first time author.

I really do appreciate your careful thought regarding my project. I think I will stick with plan A (the book proposal) for now, and if that fails I can always resort to plan B (writing the book anyway, and maybe going down the self-publishing route). If I go with plan B, I may well choose a pen name and forget the whole "disclosure" idea. My idea to go out with a bang would only really work if I achieve decent circulation, which is why I'm giving this project everything to make the book as attractive as possible for a potential publisher.

I intend to write a chapter on the JW approach to sex, marriage and morality, and how Society doctrines in this regard have impacted on me personally

Interviews may well play some part, depending on circumstances. If I get a decent advance, I may well invest some of it in visiting a few individuals in person!

Well, this is the furthest I've ever made it in a book-writing attempt so far - 23 pages and still going strong. Instead of doing just one sample chapter for the book proposal, I'm doing two.

$500 wouldn't have even covered one plane ticket outside of a Zagreb-UK shuttle. He was talking about getting an advance big enough to fly all over the world and interview exJWs. He also wanted enough to fly into the annual Tahoe Apostafest.

I remember that little book signing he did at some tiny bookstore... god love them for hosting an event but he was obviously so excited, like people would be lined up around the block to meet him. I thought I heard that literally no one showed except some xJWs that he had asked to arrange it or something?

I remember the first signing in London was a disaster. Back then Lloyd had everyone else do shit for him and all he had to do was show. It was at a coffee shoppe that allowed him to rope off a small section for signing. Problem was Lloyd wanted to assess a cover charge. The establishment had no such charge, so calls were made and it was all news to them he was doing that. Not even JK Rowling or other writers assess a cover charge. You get a signature if you purchase a book on the spot. Not Lloyd, he wanted to fund from all possible angles. Keep in mind this is after crowdfunding $20K USD to cover the cost of printing and marketing the book, including going on book tours. Like Watchtower, he wanted to be doubly compensated and he was.

The woman who put on the signing event met Lloyd beforehand and asked if she could get a copy to read. She was told flat out "no" and that if she wanted one she needed to purchase it. Lloyd was also acting funny, thinking this was a huge event in exJW history and wondered if he had enough pens to sign.

There was a moderate crowd, not sparse but not something to be bragging about.

On the American leg of the tour he got bigger crowds, I remember he was bragging about one being attended by 50 people. Of course, he took his wife and daughter and all the transportation and incidentals such as hotels and restaurants were crowdfunded by local exJWs. He went to Baltimore, New York and maybe another city like Philadelphia of Washington, can't quite remember. But when he flew to the west coast, he had a car rented for him and he drove from Los Angeles with stops in San Francisco, Salem Oregon, Seattle and Vancouver BC. All covered by the generosity of others. His trip to Australia was similarly funded.

He intended on renting a caravan for a tour through the American East Coast, South and Midwest. But for whatever reason that fell through, probably because of a lack of funding. Caravans are not cheap to rent, and it was getting a bit blatant that he was double-dipping these book tours with holiday time for his family.

So, was he still trying to be anonymous at that time and that is why he did not make an appearance in that video?

That’s exactly why he didn’t appear. He was still incognito as “John Cedars” and I believe the word Lloyd uses for that now is “anonymous coward”.

He wanted to release his book, get disfellowshipped and use that for book promotion and coming out as his real identity. When he found no publishers willing to take up his book and give him his hoped for advance, he just went ahead and DAed.

Side note - since when does a publisher give a random former JW elder an “advance”? Advances are given to celebrities or prominent people for their memoirs.

Though she might not appreciate the question and since she’s here, I would like to know the reason why Barbara Anderson quit as VP of AAWA only a few days into launch. Was it because of Lloyd?

The video is cringe for several reasons. First, the interview itself was like 3 and a half minutes long. It was for BBC radio, but evidently Lloyd felt it was best to title that as "I am on the BBC!" making no distinction between television and radio. He basically explains the disfellowshipping policy and how it relates to his own dad shunning him and his young daughter. As for the Russian ban, again he brings his dad into it saying he does not want to see him jailed. Mumbles a few things about human rights and it seems she lost interest and wrapped up the interview.

The real cringe is his follow-up video afterwards. He goes into the background of his 3 and a half minutes of fame claiming he was "invited" to write for the Huff Post and that the article was vetted by them. As was mentioned earlier, he was fortunate enough to sign himself up for a blogger's account at the Huff Post before they stopped the practice. No one invited him to contribute a blog article for a service they were discontinuing. Then he claims the article led to him being "vetted" by the BBC where by his own admission he plugged his article to them. The BBC knew about it but it wasn't the reason they were vetting him. It would seem that his name was given to them through another source, probably an exJW one. Again, he's been propped up countless times by exJWs, so attacking and suing them was an extremely poor move on his part. He'll never pass another vetting process again, and should he even somehow get past that, they are going to have to ask him about his Thailand trip, the lawsuit, what exactly the "lies" were, etc. Good luck trying to sell that to a journalist. He's finished doing these interviews.

At round the 15 minute mark in that video you will come to the true reason he made it. He sets off on this contrived explanation of how YT was demonetising him and others, especially when he claimed he needed it the most because he was finishing his book and not producing as many videos. He even brought up a graph detailing his fall of revenue in true Stephen Lett style. You knew what was coming next. He then went into how he was a "fulltime activist" whilst Dijana continued the translation business. He emotionally manipulates the viewer into thinking that this was all a huge burden on Dijana now that she had no one to proofread her translations. He was too busy working hard for you! Then he posts a graphic that he had gained 18 Patrons, evidently a result of a previous Patron drive he initiated on social media. He was so "humbled" at the generous support and was so happy that all of you made his 3 and a half interview with the BBC possible.

If that video wasn't proof enough that this has been a business for him, then I don't know what is. Very manipulative.

P.S. - Toon Media is his Romanian friend Arthur Weber's company. It's not Lloyd's entity.

The famous Croatian's begars mum was previously married and she came into possession of a large house in an affluent part of Wilmslow, his dad just took advantage of a jw woman that came with a free big house when he married her, no mortgage to pay like the rest of us.

This is confirmed in Lloyd's book. His dad came from Birkenhead, cross the river from Liverpool in what seems to be a lower middle class background. HIs dad's mum was a convert, so his dad has lived his entire life as a JW.

His mum was a convert herself. She was married twice before marrying his dad. The first marriage was to a man who concealed the fact he was gay. After that divorce, her first legitimate marriage was to a man named Robin whom she seemed to love. Robin already had a home in Wilmslow, a much better-off suburb than the one she grew up in in Eccles. Before she married Robin, she was already in contact with JWs as a study. Robin died in a house fire in 1974 when he fell asleep with a lit cigarette. His mum became a JW in 1975 when JWs consoled her in her grief.

His Mum married his dad in 1978 and he was born in 1979. He relates that he spent the first 4 years of his life in the same tall Victorian semi that his mum lived in with Robin. He doesn't specify if it had been rebuilt or repaired after the fire so one must assume it was since they continued to live there. Later at an unspecified date they moved to a smaller detached home from the centre of town. Evidently this is where his dad still lives.

So, it's actually the sale of his mum's second husband's tall Victorian home that bought their new home. This is interesting, since he did the same as his dad did in moving into his wife's family home.

JFC what does any of that story have to do with anything?

His mum is the emotional crux of the book. He bookended it with her story and his updated letter to her when he was ready to publish. On the dedication page, it reads:

To Dijana, Jessica and Mum

No mention of his still living father and sister. It is clear that he sees himself as his mum's intellectual heir. She's brilliant and resourceful. Had she not been in in JWs and married his father, she'd have been a very successful and independent woman from his viewpoint. She went to art school as he eventually did, and he felt she was too intelligent for JWs. He opined that if he had the chance to reveal to her what he eventually found out about the org, she might have followed him out.

In contrast, he absolutely trashes his dad and sister. His dad was a bumbling fool; unattractive, clumsy, broke and not worthy in any way of his mum. His sister he describes as having emotional problems. He especially lit into her when describing her reaction to news that mum was terminally ill with cancer.

In many ways, he has become his dad. He inherited his looks from him. They are both awkward and thoroughly unattractive men who married women a few leagues above them in the looks department. Though they now find themselves on opposite sides, he's judgmental and so sure of himself in every way his dad was and is regarding JW doctrine. Lloyd has disappointed his wife and family in more ways than his dad ever fell short of his Mum's expectations.

It seems like his Dad is wealthy so he probably learned a bit from him about the business side.

In his book, he was quite critical of his dad. He related how he was a secondary school dropout, had little aptitude for sales and was often getting sacked from his jobs. In contrast, his mum was the one who stepped up and took control of the family's finances by getting a job. This is a revealing passage from The Reluctant Apostate:

As far as higher education was concerned, Mum and Dad were actually quite progressive and open-minded in comparison to most Witness parents. I think this was due, at least in part, to the fact that both of them had experienced quite austere childhoods. Neither of them came from wealthy or privileged backgrounds. Both were raised to view financial security as something hard to attain and not to be taken for granted. It was also around this period that Dad seemed to start getting fired from various jobs as a sales rep with increasing regularity. He had flunked school as a child due to his own problems with bullying, which he attributed to his dyslexia, and work as a salesman suited his skills and personality perfectly. Dad is a larger than life character; a talkative man with a good sense of humor and a gift for retaining information that most would consider useless. Even so, when it came to selling things, he did have his shortcomings. Mum once told me of an occasion when his boss sent him for an appraisal of his sales techniques. The conclusion? Apparently “he could talk anyone into buying something, but then talk them straight back out of it.” The occasions when Dad would come home and tell us he had been fired felt like a bomb going off in our family, leaving us all in shock. Mum took it especially hard, since she was the one running the household accounts and paying the bills. She felt the strain more than any of us. When things got especially bad, Mum found work as a painter/decorator—a job she had a natural aptitude for due to her background as an art student. Her artistic streak and craftsmanship also enabled her to make some extra money from the occasional furniture restoration job. However, Mum suffered from severe migraines that were easily triggered by the fumes emanating from the paints and chemicals she used. Never one to give up so easily, Mum managed to find a less hazardous job as a part-time nanny for a local wealthy family while still doing the odd decorating jobs here and there to make ends meet. I will always admire her resourcefulness and willingness to do her part in keeping food on the table. Mum was entirely selfless in putting the family’s needs first. If Hannah and I needed clothes, she would not hesitate to go without buying any for herself to make sure we were presentable. Even in our bleakest periods, I cannot bring myself to think of my family as poor. I have seen true poverty, so I could never frame my childhood experience in that context. Despite many setbacks, Mum and Dad did very well at providing a comfortable, happy environment for Hannah and I to grow up in. We had all the usual gadgets and appliances. We lived in a nice house in a quiet neighborhood with a big garden. We had two cars in the driveway (our own car, and Dad’s company car when he was in work). We managed a holiday each year even if it was only a camping trip to the Welsh coast. [33] Out of the dozen-or-so young families in our congregation, probably ours was among the better off financially. Nevertheless, money was certainly never taken for granted in our home, and I think the challenges faced by Mum and Dad gave them a more pragmatic approach to college education than most Witness parents.

That selfishness and pushiness is what got him into the Crisis of Conscience fiasco. Whoever the publisher was, they let it fall by the wayside, so Lloyd didn't even ask for permission but just snapped it up and started printing hard copies.

The thing about that whole fiasco is that he still insists to this day that he had only printed 5 copies through his Romanian friend, one of which was given away in a contest. In his lengthy Reddit post, he admits to getting a Cease and Desist letter from the copyright holder (Deborah Dykstra, a personal friend and caregiver of both Ray and Cynthia Franz) and pays her $50, or $10 for each infraction.

It is unclear as to how many were printed. You can take his word for it that it was only 5 copies, but he's dishonest and was really trying to cover his tracks. He was a lot more involved in this than his Romanian friend offering to print a handful of copies for personal use.

An email was placed to Arthur Weber after Lloyd referred people who wanted to purchase copies of COC to his email address on Facebook. Arthur did indeed confirm they were for sale. Nor did he deny Lloyd was involved with it:

So in Arthur's own words, "Cedars and I set up this arrangement to see how many orders I can get through email".

Sounds like a business arrangement to me, designed to not only profit Lloyd, but also free advertising on the back with "JW Survey.com" printed prominently on the back and the added bonus of being the hero in the community who brought a much-needed book back into circulation.

We can go on and on about how we need to stop "obsessing over Lloyd Evans", but it misses the fundamental point.

People did move on from the COC debacle. People did move on from the time he attacked people for asking that their $150 donation for his second book go instead for another abuse survivor's story. People moved on from all these shithead attacks. condescension and outright arrogance.

It never worked. He kept upping the ante every time he got away with it.

Fast-forward to December 2021 - January 2022 where he just shit on all the work not only what he did for CSA, but for the ones he was working with in IICSA and on his channel. His wife was Whatsapping people in the community worried about her husband and what he was doing in Thailand. His solution was to outsource it to Kim and PB and let them handle her whilst he was off "dating" sex workers.

So the whistle got blown on him. Does he offer an apology for his actions? Is he sorry? No, we all got a "FUCK YOU" and told it's none of our business even after going on an hour and a half livestream airing all of his dirty laundry and taking aim at his detractors.

Fuck him. Over half his Patrons have left, with several high level donators like Kim, Truth Seeker Atheist and Vince Deporter pulling their support. He'll get no quarter from us and this thread might even still be going when his daughters learn how to google.

They need to know their father is a sick, twisted, disgusting manipulator and that he's made their mum's life a living hell.

The problem with the doctor analogy is that his business is a charity whilst a doctor is on a set salary. Lloyd’s income is primarily based on people deciding to send him money for work he insists to this day “saves lives”, thus the reason for comparing himself to a doctor.

A doctor has undergrad, graduate and doctoral degrees. About 8 years of university education. They belong to professional organisations, are licensed by the jurisdiction they practice in and have to meet high professional standards in order to keep practicing medicine.

Lloyd went from art school, to landscaping, working as a legal secretary, proofreading his wife’s translations to “activism” for hire. He has no professional qualifications other than being a JW earlier in his life. He is not monitored by any professional authority so take his word for it that he’s saving lives and he needs money to do it.

He’s always leaned heavily on the altruistic nature of what he does and even had Paul Grundy come on here stating he could be earning so much more in the secular world.

His problem is not only that he cheated on his wife with prostitutes over several years, but he boasted about it to two unpaid volunteers.

Oh and he asked the same two people to mediate between him and his wife because he was busy getting well in Thailand. He wanted them to educate her that her husband seeing prostitutes and flirting with other women he met via online dating sites was a perfectly normal way of releasing the sexual frustration he was under.

Boys will be boys.

And he would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for those meddling kids!

He would have too because the sad part of this is his wife would likely still be tolerating this to some extent had the whistle not been blown on him.

If a doctor had been caught doing this, especially after making an emotional public statement to his colleagues that he needed a mental health break, he would have been asked to resign.

Not only did Lloyd not “resign”, he initiated legal proceedings on the whistleblower and colleagues who called out his behaviour, insisting he not be allowed to work there anymore.
